Students in Mrs. Lennon's, Mrs. Rossing's, and Mrs. Connor's classes have been working on a Mo Willems author study. At the start of the unit, students completed a KWL chart. We watched some videos of the REAL Mo Willems talking about how he got interested in cartoons and writing, and we even found out The Pigeon was a happy accident!

The Pigeon Books

After reading several books from The Pigeon series, first grade students brainstormed what they thought would make a fun Pigeon book. Students made rough drafts on paper, and then they used KidPix to create their book covers. Hmmmmm . . . I think if Mo Willems ever saw this webpage, he just might get some story ideas for himself!

After reading several of The Pigeon books, second and third grade students did some research, writing, and recording. Students used Facts4Me.com to research real pigeons. Then, they used ChatterPix on their iPads to narrate some funny videos of pigeons talking. Kids had a lot of fun with this short research project.

Elephant and Piggy Books

There are so many Elephant and Piggy books and just not enough time to read them all as a class! Students listened to three of these funny books by Mo Willems. Students noticed right away that children are supposed to learn a lesson through these stories! Students even tried their hand at creating their own Elephant and Piggy comics! Check them out below!
